    This woman is incredible.
Not only is she in favor of consenting adults being able to enjoy any kind of sex they want. BUT she can also argue against war !

Great courageous piece on CP today. Our NE Washington Yarrow Land Trust has 7 anti-Zionist/pro-peace Jews out of 13 members. Our president Melissa Bernstein is very active in Jewish Voice for Peace. (I was the co-founder and president for years.) Melissa is 35 and an Outdoor Education Teacher. We decided to pass the torch to our younger members. She was the outdoor education director for the Oregon B’nai B’rith Camp and she would take the mostly urban campers to Yarrow (and still does it). We got lots of sweet letters of appreciation. Many spoke of how safe they felt there. I sent your piece on to the membership. I’ll let you know how they respond

My father, Rabbi Gerald Wolpe, was an ardent Zionist. He would be disgusted and offended that you mentioned him in your anti-Israel propoganda piece, and so am I. It is your right to bash Israel in your ignorance, but LEAVE MY FATHER’S NAME OUT OF IT.

PRAY FOR PEACE IN ISRAEL. SUPPORT OUR BRETHREN HOWEVER YOU CAN. REMEMBER THE FALLEN. AHM YISROEL CHAI!

Sorry to upset you, Daniel. I am writing this from my husband Max’s bedside at Huntington hospital ICU where I have spent the night trying to explain his condition to doctors and nurses because he has aphasia and can’t explain himself. Rabbi Gerald Wolpe was your father. He was also my Rabbi. He was part of my life as a Jew and a human being. He is still part of my life, speaking to me in my mind as I try to help Max since his stroke, inspiring me through the most horrible and difficult life passage I have ever experienced by his example of how he helped your mother. Having spent the night here in ICU, and checked my phone, your email popped up. What an unpleasant but meaningful surprise. Your words hurt, but I understand your pain. I also feel intense pain and sorrow over the state of Israel, though my belief in what should be done is an obviously very different. Anyway, I must get back to Max, but I did want to say thank you for writing to me and expressing your righteous anger. You don’t seem to remember me, but I remember you (I was in your brother Steve’s class). And I will never forget your father. I don’t think he’d say I couldn’t attend Shabbat services because I questioned Israel’s aggression and felt for the people of Palestine. Of course, you’re his son and knew him far better than me, so maybe you *know* that he would kick me out of shul. But it’s my right to speak his name as the Rabbi of my youth, and now as his spirit guides me to care for my husband as he cared for your mother. Shabbat Shalom, Daniel.

I’m sure so many people appreciate how you encourage the difficult yet necessary conversations around Israel, Palestine, and the complexities of Jewish identity. It’s not easy to engage with differing opinions, especially on such a polarizing topic, but having an honest dialogue like this is where change begins. You’re a force for good, Dr. Suzy.

The opening L’Chaim Jewish Radio theme, “To Life” is a great song. I’ve always enjoyed it from the Fiddler on the Roof musical!

Great points made by Dr. Suzy. The fact that many helpless civilians on both sides are suffering is because there is a fence preventing the equal distribution of opportunity. And what ALWAYS happens is that males with no opportunities will rebel against the system that confines their future only leading to exponential amounts of retaliatory violence. It happens EVERY TIME!

Speaking hard truths about Palestine, Zionism, and Jewish responsibility isn’t easy, especially within the community. But silence is complicity. Grateful for voices willing to break it. To truth and justice!!

This conversation on L’Chaim Jewish Radio was intense, honest, and long overdue. Respect to both guests for not dodging the hard questions about Israel, Palestine, Zionism, and Jewish identity. More of this kind of dialogue, please—where disagreement doesn’t mean dehumanization. L’Chaim, truly.
