Pennyless But Rich

“Hi its me Penny Jean. I live in a small town where openess and honestly ARE NOT next to godliness. A town that breeds repressed sexuality. A town that shuns sexual discovery and exploration. This is small town America. Dr. Suzy these are the people that need your show the most. And maybe sometimes I need a dose of it too, but unfortunately due to the amount of negative response from Hunter’s family I had to decline tonight’s interview. If there is anything I’ve learned in my career in porn is that it isn’t wrong. Sex isn’t wrong. Sex is not the devil. Sexuality is human. I wish the rest of the world felt this way but in this town, a deformed idea of Christianity rules and if you don’t fit in the tiny little box of conformity you will certainly burn in HELL. I love god but I don’t fit the box. So XXX forever see ya’ll in hell.” Sent from my iPhone
Coming into our broadcast studios a few minutes after erstwhile porn star Penny Jean and her boyfriend Hunter Turner canceled their appearance on The Dr. Susan Block Show just as we’re about to go live on the air, the above text from Penny Jean explains it all.
Poor Penny. Poor Hunter. Poor Small Town America. I know Penny and Hunter really wanted to do the interview because Hunter was the one who approached me, asking if the two of them could be on the show to talk about their amazing, romantic relationship, and how the extraordinary power of love is helping them to cope with some serious medical challenges, including Hunter’s fight against cancer and his day-to-day struggles with cerebral palsy. They have a profoundly inspirational tale to tell, and when Hunter told me that one of the things that has inspired their love is my show, I was touched and even more excited to have them on as guests to share their story.
The fact that Penny and Hunter are both devout Christians just made it more interesting… or so I thought before they canceled at the last minute. Yes, Christianity has had a long, bloody, hypocritical history of persecuting innocent people simply for their sexuality, from burning sexy women at the stake as “witches” to more recent lethal attacks on abortion clinics and gay rights advocates. Then there’s the intense shame the Church instills in its adherents for so many normal erotic activities, from masturbation, to crossdressing to just being naked or engaging in consensual, pre-marital sex. I call this kind of ecclesiastical oppression “religious sexual abuse”—whether it comes from the Catholic Church, any of the Protestant denominations or “Born-Again” variety, strict Islam, orthodox Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism or some other religious organizations—and my institute has a thriving treatment program for its victims.
But I try to keep an open mind about religious people. After all, they’re just people. Some of my best friends from childhood are deeply religious, and we continue to be friends—though I think they’d be mad at me if I shouted them out in this blog. I’ve also had the opportunity to interview some prominent religious leaders, including “Kosher Sex” Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and, most recently, “The Love Boat” Captain Gavin MacLeod.
Breaking News on “The Love Boat” Captain: Gavin’s people have graciously and completely withdrawn their demand in the name of Christianity that we down our interview! This is partially because they finally watched the video and asked the Captain himself how he felt about it, to which Gavin replied, “It was a great interview!” I wish they’d done this before they tried to force us to take the thing down. Guess they had to learn a life lesson: Do your homework! Another reason for the happy ending to this tale of needless would-be censorship is that my Captain (Max) and I never backed down for an instant. Even when our would-be censors put the pressure on us in some uncomfortable ways, the course of the Good Ship Bonoboville never wavered.
So I don’t bow down to unreasonable demands on religious grounds. But unless someone advocates murder or nonconsensual sex, I do try to follow Jesus’ excellent advice to “judge not, that ye be not judged” (Matthew 7:1). Moreover, as noted in my Hollywood Show blog, many prominent Christians, including the new Pope Francis, seem to be veering toward liberal thinking lately. I’ve also been hearing various sex workers and erotic performers, such as BDSM artist Nikki Nefarious and, of course, nude model Renoni (our 2013 “Worst Guest” award winner), declare their devotion to Jesus, even as they continue to make porn and erotic art that most churches would vigorously condemn.
So I thought it very possible that this passionately-in-love young Christian couple could want to share their special, sex-positive path to Christ on my show, as they requested. After all, Penny had just won the 2013 DrSuzy.Tv Award for “Most Orgasmic Sybian Ride.” She beat out a lot of very strong contenders for that title, including her co-stars in the amazing, electric “Masturbation Exploration” show: Odette Delacroix (who wound up winning “Most Intelligent-Sounding Porn Star”) and Amor Hilton (winner of “Most Adorable”), as well as Eden Alexander ( “Kinkiest Couple” winner along with Sebastian Keys) and Heidi Hollywood (winner of another contentious category, “Best Boob Job”).
But Penny triumphed over all in the Sybian-ride category because her orgasm was simply the most through-the-roof, and her declaration, “Lord! I masturbate! And I am not ashamed!” sounded out like a clarion call for sexual humanity from the heart, soul and gonads, her smile beaming as blissfully as if she’d been blessed by a sacred vision. And Penny’s Sybian ride was just a warm-up. That magical, steamy night in the merry Masturbation Month of May (201) when Jack the Zipper brought Penny to the show, she was the magnetic, ecstatic center of a storm of intense orgiastic activity (now playing on DrSuzy.Tv).
Then Penny Jean disappeared. I couldn’t even find her to give her the award, so I posted a message looking for her on Jack’s Facebook page. Within a few days, Hunter contacted me and told me their story, at least the beginning of it. The rest would unfold on the show.
So, though not utterly shocked, I am disappointed they canceled at the last minute. Let’s just say it doesn’t help me to maintain my sunny nonjudgmental openness to self-professed “Christians” of the world.
But I don’t blame Penny, especially after I read her heartfelt, tell-it-like-it-is letter. It’s only January, but I predict it will win the DrSuzy.Tv “Most Eloquent Excuse for Flaking” award for 2014. And I don’t blame Hunter, especially considering the high-level of care he requires right now. Though a remarkably independent young man— a talk show host and filmmaker—considering his medical situation, he needs and depends upon his religious, close-knit family’s love and constant care for his very life.
I must confess I do wish Hunter’s family wouldn’t have used their power to stop this loving couple from exercising their First Amendment—and dare I say “God-given”—right to speak about their love on my show. But that is what they chose to do. And that is what many religious, loving families in small-town America often do.
It’s no different in small-town Afghanistan or Pakistan. Religious, loving families, tribes and tribal councils terrorize individuals into submitting to all kinds of sexual oppression. That terror is often coated with love, giving it even more power. And for what? To reproduce the religion (and the family), of course. To focus the sex drives of the faithful solely on procreation. Not recreation. Not expressing love. Not self-discovery. Not lowering stress. Not exploring life. Not tasting that delicious, forbidden fruit of the Tree of Knowledge.
It’s an old, oft-repeated story and, thus abandoned by our featured guests, we discuss it heartily on this show. We also watch Penny’s award-winning “Most Orgasmic” Sybian ride (and now we have to get the Sybian out of storage, in part because Jade has declared her interest in riding it!) just to remind us all of what an awe-inspiring, out-of-the-box child of god Penny is, and what a lucky devil Hunter is to have her on his love team. We wish the best to both of them and their families.
And speaking of best wishes, congratulations to another charismatic, dynamic brunette, our old friend Bonnie Rotten, for winning AVN’s 2014 Performer of the Year award. Corpsy brought her to Bonoboville on the night of January 7, 2012 (pix now being featured on DrSuzy.Tv), one of her first stops on her two-year journey to the top of the AVN heap. Bonnie wowed us on three straight shows in a row, and she’s been kicking up her skyscraper heels ever since—into the porno stratosphere and beyond. Keep on kicking, Ms. Rotten, and learn what you can from the legends as you grow.
Oh yeah, and… we’ll see ya’ll in hell!

Dear Lizzie Borden
You sound like the type of person that Penny is writing about in her note, moralistic, spiteful, slanderous and jealous of a woman who is different, who is sexual, who doesn’t “fit the box.” That doesn’t sound like a good Christian.

After reading Penny’s text, I feel a lot of compassion for her. As a Christian myself, I understand where she comes from. Tightly knit Christian families do tend to dampen ones exploration of sex and other things. I had to remove myself from that for my own sanity…though it still haunts me from time to time.
I think we are in an evoutionary time, that you and Max are part of that evolution. My part in this is to show that Christianity is not anti-sex (if anything, the Song of Solomon proves the opposite), that the problem is a puritanical misinterpretaion that has led to so much hurt.
So keep up the fight, and Penny Jean, if you are reading this, please understand that there are people who understand and love you and that maybe you were not ready to that that next step, but when you are there will be those ready to welcome you with open arms.
I just hope what I said made sense.

Jesus would have gone on your show, Dr. Susan. In fact, didn’t you interview him one Christmas in the cast of the Beastly Bombing? Two more of my favorite hot brunettes on your show would have to be Penny Jean and Bonnie Rotten. At least, Bonnie’s a winner this weekend. Though Penny’s letter is also a winner, in the way it exposes her small town’s small mindedness.

Is it too late… Can I take back my comment? *blush* Thanks for the ever-interesting and sex-educational shows, Dr. Suzy! And thanks for letting me play co-host in the game of “What’s That Sound?” xoxo Jade
