Freedom is the greatest aphrodisiac, but restraint is a close second. It’s one of the many ironies of sex that some of the freest people get off on giving up their freedom—consensually, of course. They may be turned on by being “forced” to experience things that they really want but don’t feel free to receive unless they’re restrained. They may be aroused by struggling against the restraints or surrendering as they enter “sub space.” This is one of the bedrock principles of BDSM.

Another principle is theater. BDSM (Bondage & Discipline, Dominance & Submission, Sado-Masochism) is dramatic, and I don’t mean Fifty Shades of Holy Crap drama; I mean the living theater of intimate power exchange, the potent poetry of mixing pleasure with pain as you play—with an audience. This show’s guests of honor are masters of BDSM play. So it’s natural that they’re now creating “plays,” i.e., theatrical entertainments spotlighting the drama of BDSM, engaging in themes of passion (the latin passio means “to suffer”), intimacy, discovery, healing, consensuality and control.

BDSM Master Orpheus Black, one of the most respected—and theatrical—leaders in Southern California’s BDSM community, now spearheading SexPositive World’s “People of Color” subgroup, is a master of this type of performance play. So I’m happy to have him back on DrSuzy.Tv (past appearances include Gun Shots or Cum Shots: Sex & Violence in American Media and Monogamy Sucks) to promote Mènage Á Trois, in a sensuous interactive performance piece playing this Tuesday in the Anonymous Theater, as well as his other work in polyamory and BDSM sex education.

My other featured guests are the radiant Goddess Soma Snakeoil, editor/publisher of DDI (soon to publish “The Bonobo Way of Female Power”!) and BDSM-loving punk rock superstar Mike Burkett, a.k.a., “Fat Mike” of NoFX, who just wrote a brand new musical, Home Street Home, a masterpiece of BDSM theater. Check out the soundtrack and you’ll hear what I mean. It’ll get you dancing, thinking, singing and even spanking right along with it. Home Street Home tops Rent and joins the ranks of Yellow Submarine, Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy, American Idiot, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and The Rocky Horror Picture Show as one of the best rock musicals ever. With deliciously catchy tunes, dark hilarity, fearless topicality and a remarkable depth of vision, it effectively dramatizes how BDSM can be a form of erotic/artistic expression that can heal the wounds of childhood, even those wounds that are horrifically inflicted by the people we trust the most.

Pretty awesome featured guests, huh? The only problem is that when the show starts, they’re not here. Busy superstars that they are, all three of them—and their entourages—are running a little late. AND I’m short-staffed. But it’s a live show, and it must go on. Fortunately, the lovely Audrey Holiday is here, right on time, and so is Thai Chy, one of the poets in Orpheus’ Mènage Á Trois play. She delivers a sensuous BDSM-themed poem, “Tale of a Throb,” turning the Womb Room into a old-style coffee house. We also talk about her day job as a colon hydro-therapist, which reminds me to shout-out Carrie Weisman who interviewed me for her article on how to make anal sex more pleasurable which appeared in Alternet that morning. It’s all about that bass.

Meanwhile, the featured guests are still not here. That calls for a drink. I take Bonoboville Communion with sweet Audrey from Rhode Island (giving Capt’n Max a chance to tell a few of his favorite RI stories). Audrey chooses Ron de Jeremy rum; though she’s never met Ron, now she can says she’s swallowed his juice. She strips down to her G-string, revealing beautiful naturals, and I feel better already. We’re also joined by award-winning actor Luzer Twersky celebrating his 30th birthday with his Luzers bandmate, Hans Petter Gundersen. When Audrey declares her love of ‘’choking,” Luzer confesses he never done anything remotely like that, nor is he the least bit interested. Then Mènage Á Trois player Ikkor the Wolf joins us. He doesn’t choke our fair maiden, but he does take off his Green Cross shirt and so does Hollywood Jake, revealing some delectable, well-muscled beefcake. Yum-yum. It’s a hot night smack dab in the middle of the Bonobo Summer of Love

Now the featured guests are texting that they’re “on their way.” At last! Part of the “theater” of BDSM is in the suspense, a.k.a., the tease. This can take time. Most “vanilla” sex tends to last just a few minutes to an hour or two, at the most. BDSM games often involve hours of teasing before getting to the grand climax.

That’s kind of how this show goes. It starts slow, teasing us (and frustrating me). Then suddenly, the floodgates open up, the stars pour in, and the Womb Room explodes into climax after climax of extraordinary visuals. Orpheus swashbuckles up to the stage with his #1 wife (yes, he has others) Indigo Black, to the cheers of the Bonoboville bar. Then at Audrey’s eager request, he proceeds to demonstrate the art of choking… on her. It’s literally a breathtaking sight. Audrey appears to not *just* go into sub space, but to have a profoundly transformative experience. She confirms this by stating that it was the best choking she’s ever had. As for the rest of us, we are transfixed by the risk and power of this edgy, extremely dangerous, rather disturbing but kind of beautiful and undeniably consensual act that appears to be quite gratifying to both parties. Even Luzer is interested! No, he doesn’t suddenly develop a choking fetish, but he is amazed by le petite mort of choke play.

Needless to say, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. In fact, do not try it anywhere. Choking is an incredibly high risk activity, and you should only do it after studying with an expert like Orpheus. That being said, it’s true that many people, especially ladies, enjoy being choked by a pair of strong, expert hands like those of Orpheus Black.

Still gasping, we are treated to the colorful vision of Goddess Soma, Fat Mike and some of their crew bearing the gift of a lovely painting for the Villa Bonobo gallery. Soma is resplendent in red and black latex. Mike is wearing a slip. That’s right, the punk rock god is rocking a lacy pink slip.

I’m not altogether surprised since Soma had texted me:

“Sorry we couldn’t get there on time.

The good news is that Mike is wearing a dress.

First time wearing a dress for an interview!”

So I’m aware of the situation. Also, one of the most fun times we had at DomCon was hanging out in Soma and Mike’s suite watching Mike model various skirts and latex dresses before settling on wearing a leather kilt (which doesn’t count, since Braveheart made it manly). Still, this slip is a very skimpy, lacy number. “It’s hot” is the stated reason, though it reveals such a femme side to the tough, beer-swilling Mike we all know and love that I just have to call him Michelle.

Now the Goddess must have her way with the nubile Audrey whom we shackle to the cross. “Let’s Get Hurt,” “Safe Words,” “Because I Want To” and other toe-tapping, butt-spanking songs from Home Street Home provide an apt soundtrack to our play. Audrey also enjoys humiliation, and the Goddess has just the thing for that in her big bag of Snakeoil: a pink latex piggy mask which she puts over Audrey’s pretty pouty face, and then proceeds to smack her boobs with a soft JuxLeather flogger, calling her a “sex pig,” though she’s really more of a cute little piglet than a pig.

Shackling Miss Piggy.

Video Still: Shackling Miss Piggy.

Then Jane Starr and Stefani Special, part of Soma and Mike’s group, hop on the bed to watch Aaliyah Corsets get a nice Orpheus Black hand-spanking. Jane wants it so much, she’s practically drooling, so Orpheus gives spanks her too, and her moans of pleasure echo through the Garden of Bonoboville. Then Aaliyah and Jane play like bonobos, kissing and fingering each other, their butts blazing as they come together.

So much happens, I’m not sure where the show stops and the after-party begins. Soma puts Mike/Michelle into latex mitts that keep him from playing with his instrument—especially frustrating for a musician. Then we do Bonoboville Communion with more Ron rum, which gives me a golden opportunity to suck on Soma’s fabulous boobs and feel her talented tongue on mine; how she gets Mike to keep a shotglass filled to the brim with Ron rum balanced between his teeth while we make out is beyond me. I also take on Mike’s ex, Wendels, and her humongous 40Gs (“I grew them myself,” she beams as if talking about homegrown watermelons which they’re pretty much the size of). Even Pappy gets in on Communion, taking it from Jane’s everhard nips.

More shout-outs to the late great Frank Moore who has a new book, Deep Conversations in the Shaman’s Den; to Abby Martin and her LA art show(s); to Sarah Bland truth-seekers, to Dr. SerenaGaia and Ecosexuality (pix now on DrSuzy.Tv); and to Dr. Chris Ryan, best-selling co-author of the groundbreaking Sex at Dawn, who will interview me on his show Tangentially Speaking about The Bonobo Way.

Speaking of which, Goddess gives me a good sound Bonobo Way book-spanking (I guess I’m taking Luzer’s birthday spanking), and I give the book to Orpheus. He may not love that bonobos are the most Femdom apes on Earth (his particular poly family is male-dominant), but I’m sure he’ll appreciate “Bonobo BDSM,” and in any case, the paperback makes an awesome paddle.

We wander through the garden and into my wardrobe closet where I give my old black lace and hot pink silk slip to Mike/Michelle. After a bit of the old tug and pull, it fits him like a dream, and he wears it home!

I hope he has some great orgasms in that slip. I certainly have much more than I deserve with Capt’n Max, riding the wave of our enchanted evening of BDSM Theater in Bonoboville.
