WOMEN in PORN Dissertation
If you are a female porn star — that is, if you are a woman who has sex in front of a camera professionally — Jessica Zucker would like to talk with you. Jessica is a PhD candidate in Psychology with a Master’s degree from Harvard. She is now at the California Graduate Institute (where, you might recall, I did my lecture on fetishes for Dr. Ari’s class), developing her doctoral dissertation on Women in Porn. If you’re a “woman in porn” and you’d like to get involved in this exciting, worthwhile project, drop her a line her at jessicazucker@yahoo.com
All you have to do is a short, relaxed interview where you get to talk about your favorite subject: yourself! I did it yesterday. Why me? I’m not a porn star. Or am I? See, at first, Jessica contacted me because she hoped that I would put her in touch with some real porn actresses. Then we both realized that I too am a “woman in porn,” at least according to her definition. After all, I have had and continue to have various forms of sex on camera, and its all part of my *job.* Though I’ve never had sex in an official *porn movie,* and I don’t particularly want to, I have engaged in multiple marvelous sexual encounters with guests on my show, as well as in after-parties that often wind up on videos or at least, BACKSTAGE. Tough job I’ve got, huh?
Well, you know how I love my work. And you know how I appreciate porn stars. They tend to be my favorite guests! Some are Sexual Olympians. And I believe that all porn stars on the front lines in our fight against sexual oppression. Jessica seems to understand this. She is a very sex-positive and even porn-positive lady – for a Harvard girl (haha). Or perhaps I should say, for a psychologist. Most psychologists avoid talking about sex in any meaningful way. Jessica is easy to talk to — about sex, your fantasies, your childhood, your mother, your dad, your husband, your lovers, your feelings.
Of course, she’s in the world of academia, where everything must be quantified or at least analyzed. But she seems drawn to the *underworld* of porn as a form of expression that can shed light on archetypal aspects of women’s sexuality. Here’s what she wrote to me about her project before our interview:
“I am interested in the mother-daughter relationship and how the early moments in life come to effect subsequent sexuality and overall embodiment. The field of psychology has not yet addressed these issues in an in-depth way with regard to sexuality. This is a sex-friendly, woman-centered project!”
Jessica wants to interview 15-20 porn actresses over the next month or two. Her interviews run about 60-90 minutes. If you’re a working porn actress, and you’re interested in spending an hour or so of super-quality time talking about your awesome, fascinating self for this important research project (and if she gets the grant she applied for, she’ll even be able to pay you!), write her at jessicazucker@yahoo.com

Cindy Lou,
Do I detect a bit of anti-sex in your words? You never explain what the researcher is going to find out. I would love to hear the reasons why someone goes into the sex work field.

I think she is going to find out that the psychological reasons are the exact same as Strippers, Prostitutes and even Phone Sex Therapists.
