PINK on BUSH
I just listened to Pink’s Dear Mr. President from her new album “I’m Not Dead,” and the tears are streaming down my face. I know, I’m a sap.But these are tears of rage at this lying spying horse-phobic “lonely boy” that We the People somehow slung into the saddle in our White House, and tears of joy, like “Right on, Sister!” for Pink’s incredible talent for saying what’s on so many minds. She’s as yummy-looking as any airhead starlet, and she’s great at spoofing the whole anorexic-with-big-fake boobs Girl Kulture of Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson in Stupid Girls. But her country-style Open Letter to Bush goes straight to the broken heart of a hurting America. My friend Reverend Bookburn sent it to me (thanks, Rev!). Following are the simple, pull-no-punches lyrics, but you’ve got to listen to her sing it here.
Dear Mr. President
Come take a walk with me
Let’s pretend we’re just two people and
You’re not better than me
I’d like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep
What do you feel when you look in the mirror
Are you proud
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why
Dear Mr. President
Were you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
Are you a lonely boy
How can you say
No child is left behind
We’re not dumb and we’re not blind
They’re all sitting in your cells
While you pay the road to hell
What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye
How do you walk with your head held high
Can you even look me in the eye
Let me tell you bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don’t know nothing bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh
How do you sleep at night
How do you walk with your head held high
Dear Mr. President
You’d never take a walk with me
Would you…
I have my own Open Letter to Bush, and so do millions. But I must say that Pink’s pure notes really nail the little weasel to the wall. The bastard has just been caught in the middle of the Plame scandal, and he’s announced he wants to make 125 new nukes a year. It’s enough to make an agnostic want to pray for redemption. Thank you, Pink, for putting your fame, your talent and your beauty on the line for America in Dear Mr. President

Hey Dr. Suzy!
I’m glad we’re all still speaking out against this maddness. Thought I’d let ya know that one of my favorite bands, NINE INCH NAILS, did a simliar heartfelt song to Georgie. This is a sad, desparate plea for him to search his soul and wake up to the destruction he has caused around the world.
Right Where It Belongs
See the animal in his cage that you built,
Are you sure what side you’re on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye,
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built,
Everything where it belongsFeel the hollowness inside of your heart,
And it’s all…right where it belongs
What if everything around you,
Isn’t quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream? And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself…find yourself afraid to see?
What if all the world’s inside of your head?
Just creations of your own
Your devils and your gods all the living and the dead
And you’re really all aloneYou can live in this illusion,
You can choose to believe.
You keep looking but you can’t find the woods,
While you’re hiding in the trees
What if everything around you,Isn’t quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks,
Would you find yourself…find yourself afraid to see?

This song is not just about Bush /Cheney, but a whole sick Reagonomic culture. It reminds me of Dr Phil Mcgraw, who advocates adults leaving the nest but never once advocates raising the minimum wage to where you could actually live on it, or making a college education affordable. It reminds me of Judge Judy who is against legal assistance to those who cannot afford it. I wonder if she could explain her objection to those who are wrongly convicted or to the families of those who were wrongly executed. It is only human to cry when you realize that the society you reside is a disgrace and an embarrassment. Bush, like Reagan, has cut funding to low-income housing, he has cut education and so many vital areas, it is hard to keep track. He really is a true reactionary. His war in Iraq is mainly for economic gain, putting money in Dick Cheney’s pocket while putting other people in their graves.

I love this song, it’s so beautiful and so sad, and reminds me how messed up everything is. Thank you so much for posting it.
