    Hi Susan!
I am a long time admirer of your work. You’ve opened up my mind on so many things and I think we are now much more in agreement about pleasure than we were a year ago. For one, I get a lot of pleasure from just reading your writing.

What I admire about your work is that you embrace pleasure in and of itself where I feel like most commentaries want something “productive” (capitalist profit) to come out of it. Which is why I think we see the commodification and sublimation of sex replacing real sexual explosion.

You talk about war a lot and I think that’s so important in relation to sex. My theory is that sex is the violent act (not just physically violent, but more so violent in the since of physical joining and splitting of institutions/bodies through irrational madness). Where war is the same impulse, but in the destructive way, which is why we must be against war. Have you seen the Marx Brothers’ Duck Soup film? It captures the orgasmic function of war in a communal setting so well I think. Which is what I see going on in American culture. Sex is such a shameful act that we must replace it with something with values, like war. Or maybe this works better if we think of our shame of war being transferred to sex. Not sure yet. Very sad about Iran.

Anyways, you must be good at your job because even from afar you’ve helped my sex life at home. I’ve never been so in love. So, thank you!

    Wishing you a pleasurable 2020,
    Nick

Dr. Suzy I am a moderate and lately more conservative person. But I have been listening and watching you lately and I want to say that I have found myself submitting to your reasoning and logic more and more. I would kneel and kiss your feet if I were in your presence Ma’am, and I just wanted to tell you that. I have become a submissive man toward you and all powerful women now and I have also become a big advocate of Matriarchy, what I think should be the natural order of things.

I greatly enjoyed your recent piece in Counterpunch on Bonobos. I am a big fan of Bonobos, especially as they counter the baleful influence of chimps on our thinking. BTW have you heard about the female-led chimp band that went ‘Bonobo’? I am currently writing a book on the global mess in which I argue that dysfunctional human sexuality is at the root of some of our worst problems, especially militarism. Taking the lead from anthropologists who claim hunter-gatherer humans were like super athletes and very sexually active, I contend that when humans turned to neolithic ways that high level of sexuality was constrained and the resultant displaced ‘energy’ turned to the purpose of organised violence. In this way, war as we know it was invented. The perpetrators of this meta-crime were the poor sickos described in Terror Management Theory, the psychological theory that came out of Ernest Becker’s work on our fear of death. This is more an assertion than a coherent theory right now because the evidence is sketchy, but it seems we are thinking along the same lines.
More power to your word processor, and all the best.

Wow, great way to start the new year. I can’t wait to see Bonobos for real. Humans can bite too just like Bonobos. Example, Mike Tyson famously bit an opponent.

This is totally wild – and I might say “spot-on” – in fact my partner and I have been discussing this very issue (as our flying foxes have some bonobo-like characteristics)- in fact it seems that there is an increasing world-wide undercurrent of bonobo-esque activity – (see
https://www.pornhub.com/insights/2019-year-in-review). Plus we have “Loving More” – pushing for an acceptance of polyamory. Of course on our bizarre world, this doesn’t translate into political action. However, this has to be tempered by ready availability of contraception and birth control support … “make love, not babies” – “copulate, but
don’t populate”. etc. Just thinking… but the current mindset (both left and right) would oppose this. Oh dear… Great article!

Excellent year-end wrap up with a clear message of world peace. Along with the Bonobo philosophy comes an anti-war stance and an indictment of the military industrial complex for horrifying people in the name of weapons company profits and then misleading the population with elaborate PR campaigns. Well articulated Dr. Suzy!
