The idea of Huckabee, a religious zealot and economic reactionary, running for President is quite disturbing. Why is there no protest against him? The American people have to do all we can to prevent Huckabee from turning this country into a fundamentalist Christian state, and flushing it even further down the toilet economically.

Dear Suzy, Have a great trip. I’ve reminded my niece–Jen Davis–to go to your Yale talk and to introduce herself to you. She is doing some fantastic work in art photography on the body and sexuality.Best, mac walter a. davisProfessor Emeritus Ohio State University http://www.walteradavis.com

Religion, although it is often presented by hypocrites, does contain contain basic morality. However, you’re right that it is mainly about control. Not everybody should be married and have children, but religions encourage the vast majority to do so, so they will have enough cannon fodder, economic and otherwise, to do the deadend jobs and fight the meaningless wars. Reagan authored this country’s mental and moral stagnation. How can we say this is the greatest country in the world when health care, housing and a college education are not whithin the economic reach of the majority of the population? How can we continuely support an incompotent negilent dishonest oaf who got us embroiled in an unjustified war, mishandled the Katrina disaster and the economy, and then acts like the everything is just going fine?

I agree with all you said. And I’d like to add a couple of thoughts.Abstinence is violating God’s will. After all, he made man and woman with the urge, even the need, to have sex. So abstinence is a sin.On the issue of teenage contraception or teenage abortion: Girls do not have to have parental approval to have sex or to become pregnant. Why should they have to have parental approval to avoid pregnancy? Thanks for your good work.Horace

The sexual nature of Christ has intrigued me all my life. As a catholic, I had always found the restrictive nature of the liturgy at odds with what seemed the rather libertine attitude of Christ found in the Gospels, and I believe Christ’s sexiness is indeed one of the great mysteries of the religion. In any case I am writing to inform you of a a seminal text regarding the subject, “The Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art and in Modern Oblivion” by Leo Steinberg. It is an amazing dissertation that would be right up your alley.http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0226771873/qid=1112312855/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/002-1816404-0144835Thanks for your wonderful attitude towards sex, and your great humor in the face of contemporary mores,Robert Daulton

Mama Mia Dr. Suzy,You take my heart away with so much pleasure and knowledge. So many years of evolution and heart thumping personal revolution. I admire you and your work. So fresh and liberating. The history you tell us costs you so much in lost advertising and commercial support. I admire your steel edged will to tell the truth. Thank you.
