Los Angeles, California: May 11, 2017 — Susan M. Block, Ph.D., a.k.a., “Dr. Suzy,” internationally renowned sexologist and best-selling author of The Bonobo Way: The Evolution of Peace through Pleasure, will be a “Guest of Honor” at DOMCON LA 2017. Founded by Mistress Cyan, DomCon is “the world’s largest professional and lifestyle domination convention.” This year, Dr. Block will deliver an updated and revised reprise of her exceedingly well-received and timely 2016 presentation, The Bonobo Way at DomCon LA.
Inspired by the real bonobo apes, Block will present the Bonobo Way as an “alternative” primate paradigm focused on sex, peace, community and the balance of gender power. “In the past, hypermasculinity apologists and arms dealers have used the patriarchal “killer ape” model, based on common chimpanzees and baboons, to explain and excuse male-dominated abuse, from the home front to the war front,” observes Block. “But bonobos are at least as close to humans genetically as common chimps (and much closer than baboons), and they have never been seen killing each other in the wild or captivity. Instead, they utilize sexual play, female empowerment, the sharing of resources and a kind of ‘Bonobo BDSM’ to defuse violent tensions before they descend into murder, war or the chimp equivalent of a Trump rally. How do they do this, and can we humans learn to make like bonobos (not baboons)? Can we make peace through pleasure and empower our females? Can we save our world from greedy pussygrabbers with tiny hands and big missile fetishes? Can we release our ‘inner bonobos’… before it’s too late? At this especially turbulent point in human history, it’s worth the pursuit.”
Times are also turbulent for the highly endangered wild bonobos, now in critical danger of extinction. “Bonobo conservation is integral to the Bonobo Way,” asserts Block. “If we lose the bonobos, then we will lose a key to female empowerment and peace through pleasure that we can never find again.”
Block has presented various aspects of the Bonobo Way at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, delivering the keynote to the world’s first Ecosexuality Symposium at an academic institution, and at UC Berkeley for the 5th Conference on Monogamy & Nonmonogamy, as well as the Bonobo Way of Inclusivity at AASECT, the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors & Therapists. On June 1st, she will be on a non-fiction writing panel at her Yale University reunion, talking about the writing of The Bonobo Way. These presentations are made possible thanks, in part, to Malcolm Jones and the Bonobo Way Female Empowerment Outreach Project.
At DomCon 2017, Block will present bonobos as the “FemDoms of the Wild” utilizing sexual play, female solidarity and “Bonobo BDSM” to maintain peace and the balance of gender power, topped off by her renowned Bonobo Way “book-spankings” as well as traditional book-signings. Block wrote the definitions of “erotic spanking,” “cuckolding” and “sexual fetishes,” among others, for the Wiley-Blackwell International Encyclopedia of Human Sexuality.
Throughout the convention, at the various events, Dr. Block will appear in original latex outfits designed by the great Mademoiselle-Ilo of Paris, Catalyst and Libidex of the U.K., and DeMask of Los Angeles.
DomCon LA 2017 will be held May 17-21 at the LAX Airport Hilton. Get tickets here. FemDoms of the Wild: The Bonobo Way is scheduled for High Noon on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
