One of the most ‘artful’ depictions of death in art (murder, I should say) is Artmesia Gentileschi’s ‘Judith Beheading Holofernes’…goes under a few different titles, though.
It’s not like history is choc-full of great women painters, especially from the 1600s, so it isn’t surprising that Artemesia is not even that well known now.
The painting (here’s the link http://bit.ly/2myVLOV) depicts a biblical scene in which Judith, with the help of her maid, makes short work of Holofernes by cutting his head off.
The story goes that Holofernes, who quite fancied Judith, had plans to destroy Judith’s hometown, so as a preventative measure she made her way to his tent, where she found him drunk, and cut his head off.
The look on her face says it all.
I can imagine her saying to her maid: ‘I am so fucking sick of these arseholes riding into town, getting rat-arsed drunk and smashing the place up. So I’m going to cut this hairy bastard’s head off!’
She knows what has to be done and you can see by her expression that she’s going about it with some seriousness.
    He’s writhing, but she’s steadfast.
Her mouth is relaxed, her brows slightly furrowed, as if the vertebrae are giving her a bit of difficulty.
She’s probably been killing goats since she was knee high to a grasshopper, so she’ll get the job done.

Anyway, great show on Saturday night, loved Amor’s appearance at the end.
And your guest, Howard, playing the piano before the show was wonderful, and Gabe playing the cigar box guitar in the reception room…great sounds from both of them.
    Gypsy, as always was gorgeous.
Thanks for another great show, Dr Susan, you’re the host with the MOST!
Looking forward to next week’s action…..

Dr. Block, this was an artfully profound show with a great dialogue about sex, death and erotic art. I Love the exhibitionism, and fine artisans that you welcome into the The Dr. Susan Block Institute for the Erotic Arts & Science. A well-done show and something that I have enjoyed watching since the public access days. #GoBonobos.

Being that I was raised around in the tattoo industry and a published tattoo model I was happy to see a show dedicated to showing and show casing the different sides of that world of art. From skin canvas to stretched ones it was a show of beauty as my Queen whipped around her glass dildo sharing diamonds of knowledge. Rock on Bonobos!!

I’ve always felt that art is a form of magic and that was definitely on display during the show. This show was definitely one of a kind… The art was simply amazing and thought provoking. Some of the pieces were super awesome and some were in that “I don’t know if I love it or hate it” category that makes art contemplatively fun. In addition to great artwork there were some very interesting discussions and stories, from OMG tattoo works to unbelievable sex stories. Loved the show and I hope both artists come back soon

What a great show at #Bonoboville this week. From the tattooed queens Sara Lurie, Amor Hilton and Gypsy Bonobo to the ‘old-fashioned’ honky tonk tunes being played by Howard Teman, from the Erotic Gallery of Bonoboville — it was a nice to see old ideas interpreted in new ways. The Dr. Susan Block Show felt like it walked into a Juxtapoz Magazine. “What a wonderful world…” we live in.
