Great blog! I wrote an airctle for the student newspaper in 6th form about the evil, evil commercialisation of Valentines Day. I didn’t get a card either. But yes. The Orthodoxy celebrates the feast day of St Tryphun, or whatever, on February 14th. He’s the patron saint of grape vines and wine. And possibly alcoholics. Much better.

Excellent.

I never did buy into that St Valentine’s stuff – the Church story, not to mention, the Hallmark holiday. Even the nuns at my grade school chuckled at the absurdity of it. And, if they’d ever even heard of Lupercalia, they sure didn’t bring that up! Thanks for examining and presenting the true origins of it all. As usual, the Original far surpasses the Sequel.

Thank you for an informative and as always fun piece to further our education in the world of sex. You should start a university and enroll students, this would prepare people for the realities of sex and human relationships which are currently based on a world of religious and social fears that keep us all dumbed down when it comes to sex and yes a lot of other things.
