AVN’s Tom Hymes has written a nice, balanced, informative piece on recent events at Yale regarding the new restrictions on Sex Week, such as no longer being allowed to call itself Sex Week at Yale, though it can still use its old acronym of SWAY.  Click here to read the AVN article.

Kudos to Yale students, faculty and administrators who are defending sex education and the pursuit of knowledge, whether it’s attacked by Focus on the Family or new ventures in Singapore.  Hopefully, these Ivy League freedom fighters won’t let my alma mater slide down the slippery slope of censorship, so that we can truly create a “better” Yale.

‘Tis the season to be thankful, and I give thanks to President Levin for not completely muzzling Sex Weekers on the Yale campus. I’m thankful that Sex Week will SWAY into 2012, and this crop of Yalies will not be denied its amazing educational opportunities.  I’m scheduled to speak at a Saybrook Master’s Tea on February 7th at 4pm; mark your calendar now! And I’m looking forward to a great, erotic and enlightening Week, despite, and partly because of, the charming awkwardness of saying “Sex Week on Yale’s campus” instead of the old, now-banned name.

Of course, the classic way to censor something is to block its funding, making it economically unfeasible.  The Yale administration is not allowing Sex Week 2012 to accept corporate sponsorship like other groups.  But the students can take personal donations.  If you believe in the importance of sexual literacy and open communication about sex at the university level, please donate what you can.  For more information, go to the new Sex Week 2012 website and email director@sexweek2012.org.
