Sister Suzy, My longtime Rabbi friend (and former racquetball partner) once told me about the festival of Tu B’av, an ancient Jewish holiday which has fallen out of celebration in the mists of history. Briefly, it was celebrated when the last of the crops had been safely gathered and put away for the coming Winter. Everyone in the village gathered in the fields that night in a great feast of thanksgiving and celebration. Much wine was imbibed. At that one party that one night of the year, all traditional rules of marriage and coupling were suspended and people could make love to whomever they wished to in the fields.
