I had an amazing time at the Speakeasy, it was the first one i had ever been to and i had a most marvelous time. I’m a friend of Sara Sioux and I wanted nothing more than to meet you that night and introduce myself but unfortunately Teri and I had to leave early because we both had early mornings. Thank you so much for an amazing party and i do hope to actually meet you someday soon, what you do and the person you are is very inspiring.

Dear Dr. Block,I am writing to thank you for your blog and website, particularly your April 15, 2003 article on Iraq. I thought the following quotation was particularly striking:”Chimpanzees spread their lips into what looks like a smile when they’re scared. Considering what we have put them through, who knows what lurks behind that beautiful Iraqi smile?”I am in the midst of writing a play about the Baghdad Zoo. The protagonist, an Iraqi zookeeper, tries to sort through the chaos of life in Baghdad just before and immediately after the invasion. Zoos are popular with children; and the decimation of the Baghdad Zoo doubles as both a metaphor for the loss of innocence and a concrete reminder of the ongoing rape and murder in Iraq that feeds on that loss.I am still in the brainstorming stage of my writing and I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or insights you might wish to share.
