Hi
Dr. Susan, I just wanted to say THANKS for
your AWESOME Article, and having the ovaries of STEEL to tell it like
it is...the
cold hard FACT that GWBush is a bald-faced LIAR, WARMONGER, and TOXIC
WASTREL...all the while masquerading as a "Man of God"...GAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
And even if we impeached him, who'd take his place? CHENEY, who's just
as evil. I just
read your TEN COMMANDMENTS OF PLEASURE, and it ROCKS!!! Best,

Dear
Suzy, I enjoyed your recent Cpunch article. Wish I could come to the
Eros Day celebrations but I'll be with you in spirit. (As irony would
have it I should finish the section on Cheney in my essay on evil
that day.) best, mac p.s. Sex with either Cheney. Now there's the death

Dear
Susan,
I just want to send out a big THANK YOU for your column, "The >
Counter-Inaugural Ball." Well said! McPresident Bush and his
fellow Baal-worshippers are the product of a malignant egophrenia
phenomenon that appears from time to time (Caligula, Hitler, Pol
Pot), but like a proctologist, they will one day be behind us. In
the meantime, let's live, laugh and love, and try to stay out of
the gulag. Best regards, Max Hutchinson, a Canadian in Nashville

Subject: Your Bit as Repeated in Counterpunch
Your Bit as Repeated in Counterpunch was masterful, though a bit
over the top. But, I suspect that is precisely what you wanted
to do. Alas,
for those of us who live in extremely uptight, baptist, right-wing,
xian-mafia-owned and operated Amurika, printing out your article for
the edification of my students at the local high school, where I serve
as the librarian (and harbinger of counter-thinking to the accepted
dogma), is impossible. So, I have copied your essay to my WORD file
and intend to edit it down some to what may keep me from being fired.*
I hope this meets with you approval -- and if it doesn't, I'm sure
you will complain. I will give you credit and provide a URL for the
chronicly curious, who will no doubt want to read the original. Thanks
for the opportunity to be offensively civil -- a wonderful way to engender
in the leedle dahlinks at least some sense that not all the
world in enamored with narrow minded ness. Rg - --* - Being fired would not be the end of the world, mind, but it sure
as hell would put a crimp in my ability to cause thinking to occur in
what amounts to a mindlessly orthodox world of the carefully sifted.
I am after all, a school librarian not because I believe in schools but
rather because I believe in free access to information and I really don't
want the poor leedle dahlinks to not have any one guide their innocence
away from their highly prescribed and proscribed schooling toward a dose
of what other options are available.

Dear
Dr. Susan Block, I discovered your website by way of your most recent
essay on Counterpunch, and I think it is terrific. I just finished
a 3 page essay on Thanatos ascending the throne of America, to borrow your
words, that no one will post
because it is "a bit much," to quote one editor. My focus for
5 years now, has been the integration of sexuality and politics, and
I am so glad to learn that you have already such excellent work in this
regard. I see you are a philosopher. My mentor and finally friend was
Herbert Marcuse, who taught me about the eternal struggle between Eros
and Thanatos. Glenn Parton rain51@hotmail.com From: blackheathbooks

Subject: The Counter Indigestible Balls
Hi Susan! You know, this whole Eros/Thanatos thing makes me glad that
I often look out at the world through the model of the Tree of Life.
No theology here. I figure if people wish it they may work out their own theology
in the crucible of their own experience. No personal deities
here. No burning bushes (except for mine own of course). No "faith
based" realities except the promise of Full Spectrum Humanity. No,
the neat thing about the Tree - it is neither Absolute nor Dualististic
(the literature of the Zepher haZohar and the Bahir, while as brilliant
a bit of mystical poetry as the Alphabet of the Trees, they are riddled
with Absolutes and Dualism- as were their authors). I found the Tree
itself wonderful. The Tree of Life is a kinetic model of the forces that
shape physical reality with interesting parallels to
Super String Theory (both constitute a "Theory of Everything" among
other things). All 10 Sephirot on the Tree are Wheels of Force that operate
in Four Worlds to manifest and shape physical reality. The letters from
the Hebrew Alphabet (22) are assigned the Paths that connect them. Susan,
this alphabet is unique (as far as I know). Closest parallel for me is
the Periodic Table of Elements. You know, big table, little boxes, all
the elements in the known universe. The letters each possess a range
of attributes, e.g. derivation, planet/zodiacal figure/element, Tarot
Trump, number, plant, perfume, musical tone, metal, weapon, et al. (I
actually put together a deck of 'flash cards' for each letter & Sephirot
based on the Masonic/Golden Dawn model, incredible fun.). Each of those
items is made up of separate elements each holding their own potency.
In the aggregate, each letter constitutes a state of consciousness that
is engaged to balance the Sephirot, the forces. Way cool. The Zepher
Yetzirah (transl. Aryeh Kaplan '92) is the 3rd of the major Kabalah texts.
It is short, maybe six pages of text, written approx 100 C.E.
from far older sources and it rocked my world. Opening line, "With
32
wondrous Paths of Wisdom, engrave Jah." The word for Paths is Netivot,
a personal or private way created from personal resources. 47 years of
life, 25 yrs of study and reading, so much came together, and I have
always been hooked. From religion in childhood riding twin with philosophy
(Will Durant) followed by politics, psychology, metaphysics,
& magickal study all in quest of a change beyond my ability to imagine,
and I seem to have got it. It also cost me a lot more than I could imagine,
but things go that way sometimes. The light is not the Sun. The picture
takes us to the 'place', after that we can get there on our own. It's all
training wheels for full adulthood. Susan, here's what struck me about
the Tree: There are no Polar Opposites on the Tree! None. The Absolute
and Dualistic toxicity of all the religions of the Book beggars description
but there are only complimentarities on the Tree, that must be balanced.
Too much one way - disaster. Too much the other way, disaster. Like a person
walking on the Waters of Life, yes? Dynamic balance, like a personal La
Grange Point. And the four worlds? Octaves in the Song of Life. Angels
sing in many ways and some carry Swords of great Duration while others
hold the Cup
of Manifestion. When they marry, equals on the Cube, Emporer & Empress,
then the Red Lion & the White Swan hold court as the creature with
two backs, and what a court they hold. They birth an eternal Phoenix
whose tears heal the wounds of world. The reciprocal Paths on the Tree
connect Complimentarities, e.g. Chesed
& Geburah are connected (in the Hebrew model - 9 versions for the assignment
of letters to the Paths, all accepted as valid - no Absolutes) by one of
the three Mother letters in the Hebrew Alphabet called Aleph. Aleph holds
the element of Air, assigned the Trump 0 The Fool, and is derived from
a symbol for an ox yoke - and you know about the Ur-Ox - Life Force itself,
signified in the Yellow background of The Fool, yoked in service of Air
- Spirit, Breath. Oh yes! The other two
Mother letters, Mem (Water) & Shin (Fire) connect the other two
reciprocal Paths in the Hebrew model, Chokmah & Binah (Shin), and
Netzach & Hod (Mem). The Sephirot Chesed is called Greatness or Mercy,
is called the Cohesive or Receptive Intelligence and holds the Vision
of Love. Chesed deals
with forces that build up "stuff" and is called the Sphere
of Jupiter with it's names and sigils. Geburah on the other hand is called
Power. If Chesed is anabolic, Geburah is catabolic. It is referred to
as the Radical Intelligence, holds the vision of Power, and is called
the Sphere of Mars with it's
names and sigils. There is only one additional piece. "From the
letters
build the names, from the names build the Tree." Names signify the
forces of each Sephirot. Remember the Periodic Table? What if a name,
Seraphim, Beni Elohim, Kokab, Metatron, Sandalphon, expressed and spoken
in the individual Hebrew letters, what if these were formulae? Individual
letters engraved with breath, carved with voice, depicted and permuted
with speech (sound like ch'i, ki, or prana to you?) these generate a
vibration in space holding all the associations connected to the letters
and these forces
are grafted, one into another forming a "name", creating a
unique energy signature in space, one name in each of the four quarters.
Then repeated, each one four times. It has been my experience that vibrations
of this kind materially impact my environment in interesting ways.
Speaking "The Word" indeed. What did the Carpenter say in the
Gospel of Thomas, "He who understands
these words will not taste death." He was not kidding. Death sits
on my left hand and counsels me always. Daffy Duck sits on my right and
tells me Death is a peasant illusion generated by superficial appearances&
gross insensitivity. I think his phrase is something like, "Fuucchhhhing
shtoopid pppeasannnttt'sss." I listen to both. Daffy teaches me
about compassion. Death teaches me about what's important. Roses are
important. Living intensely as a Full Spectrum Human is important. That
means you gotta get enough sleep. My darling, it's been a long road from
Stranger in a Strange Land and The Steppenwolf, to Susie Block knockin'
on heaven's door dressed with a vibrator in one hand, a dildo in the
other, and a saucy laugh in the center of her heat. Go gettem kiddo.
Don't forget the serpents. They're due for a comeback. They've been getting
a bad rap for far too long. And yes, your battle against sexual shame
and ignorance is a Path with a Heart. All the best, sorry for the QBL
memoir, couldn't help it, just a part of the riches of my life. Timothy

Read your
account of the way your 'Rape

was twisted by the Yeni Safak newspaper and all the trouble it caused.
A complete distortion by them. Your article itself was excellent.
Don't know how they dared to use your name in their piece of hatemongering
propaganda!
I love your writing, and I've just added your site to the 'free links'
on mine. Other people have posted links to things from fishing tackle
through catswelfare and desktop dancers to a profile of the town
of Nokomis in Saskatchewan along with my own and I haven't felt the
urge to remove any as yet. but you are one of the stars!
As far as I'm concerned you're welcome in Istanbul any day of the
week. maybe even to confront the editor of that little newspaper
face to face! The big ones here 'Sabah', 'Hurriyet', would have a
field day I imagine. They are big and colourful and can be often
outrageous. 15 years ago a nipple would be painted over but now they're
everywhere. From: "Dennis Kelch" <hassamu17@yahoo.com>

Dear
Dr. Block.....you sound aboust as angry as I am, but you do it with such
wit and insight. Really enjoyed your article and it is so timely
because there are many of us out here who are disgusted with this extravaganza
of an inauguration while our young men and women are killing and being
killed in Iraq. I have no intention of watching King George receive
his crown and will plan my day accordingly. He epitomizes everything
I loathe in a human being, mainly that he seems to have no empathy
in his soul, except for his high-rolling cronies. "We shall overcome
someday".......can't come soon enough for me! Sincerely, Sue Brown

Dr.
Block, I enjoyed
your essay on Eros Day. I'm in total agreement with you about the
obscenity which will take place this coming week. One of E.A. Poe's short
stories came to mind as I was reading your commentary. It's called "The
Mask of the
Red Death" in which another Bush-like character and his minions
celebrate in
a "protected castle" while the "red death" ravages
his "kingdom." It could
well serve as a metaphor for the U.S. today, even the color "red" coupled
with
"
death" serves as an additional irony. I wrote a poem of which I
will share a
few of the stanzas with you. It highlights my distaste for "Thanatos."
Thank You. Karl Gabbey
3. The little Man
There is a man, a little man
With lots of power but gives no damn
Ignorant, and is no reader
Calls himself the country’s leader....
Everything is such a disgrace
Cannot bear that smirking face
Four more years
And many more tears...
Enough’s been said
And ten thousands dead
Many a tragedy in his wake
Certainly not for nation’s sake
The
little man is full of crime
Dirty, scummy, rife with slime
Cannot hear it one more time
In disgust, this ends sad rhyme
