I think it’s great that Dr. Suzy was able to spread her Bonobo Way philosophy about Peace through Pleasure at AASECT. We can all learn something about being a more fun human from our Bonobo cousins. I hoped it helped all these other therapists to be more empathetic to their clients. What a colorful speech. Go Bonobos!

Wow you inspire me so much. Peace through pleasure, yes! i’m still wading through the torrid waters of peace through what feels like self-destruction. I know that its part of my process. And I honor it. But looking at these pics and reading this blog is helping me balance my spirit. Thank you.

Your life is a set of candles eternally lit and birthdays but an artificial set of time-markers with candles that get blown out. I am proud to know you, because you dance in the fire of living your wishes and sharing your gifts each and everyday.

Happy Birthday Dr. Suzy, I am so proud of you for living your dream and what you have worked so hard to build over the years.
Being here at Bonoboville with You, Max & my fellow Bonobos has taught me a new way of seeing the world. I hope you have many more of these talks so more people in this world can have the chance to learn & change. You can’t change the world, just yourself…

Yes, Susan, you’re right on the mark. I’m writing about this too, and here’s my comment. Access to sex-positive education and bans on assault weapons save lives. Hopefully, we have enough evidence now! “The killer himself is seen as an aberration at the crux of social contradictions. Oh, if only he could have made peace with his inner bonobo and accept his sexual fluidity as a gift. If it would have been easier for him to access sex-positive education than assault weapons like AR-15s! The burden is shifted on the NRA and its effects on a money-dominated political scene.”

AASECT and sex educators at a large who are dedicated to advancing the awareness of a liberated sexuality, knowing the benefits of how much violence is dismantled in the process, are vital. This is of course what makes Bonobos such a mascot, since they still have problems but use their connection to sort out their differences. Even utopias have inner conflict, they just have the tools to work through issues that arise.

Looks like a most excellent time, looking forward to seeing the video!

This is amazing! Thanks Dr. Block for your great work in sharing the Bonobo Way, the importance of animal conservation and peace through pleasure as a facet of inclusivity. We have a lot to learn from our primate cousins and your documentation of human sexuality and stories of bonobo sexuality are unparalleled, you are part of a chorus that sees a connection between compassion and inclusive social environments. Moreover, your pro-sexuality ethos is toast worthy! CHEERS! #GoBonobos

One of my favorite quotes from this beautifeous, prolific & spellbinding tome of a travelogue (thank you for posting all this!) is part of Dr Suzy’s response to the Orlando massacre:
“…Without all the facts (and we’ll never have all the facts), who really knows? But as a sex therapist (not AASECT-certified), I’ve talked with hundreds of self-confessed, self-loathing bisexual males. Many are married men with children who have or fantasize about having various kinds of sex with men, and they feel that their own innocent homosexual desires are utterly humiliating and inherently revolting. Many are victims of religious sexual abuse (different religions), in that their priests, ministers, rabbis, imams, parents and teachers tell them in no uncertain terms that homosexuality and bisexuality are condemned by God, and their homosexual desires make them worse than murderers. None of my clients have expressed the desire to commit murder, let alone mass-murder (at least, not to me), but some confess they consider killing themselves, because their shame is so intense. I hope I’ve helped to keep them from doing so by talking, listening, exploring, answering their questions and letting them know their desires are normal and good. If they’re at all open to science, I tell them about bonobos, explaining that these very close genetic cousins of ours are also “gay,” bisexual, pansexual (their Latin classification is pan paniscus), or just fluid, as are plenty of other animals, including humans, and the peace-through-pleasure bonobo culture proves that LGBTQ diversity is utterly natural and beneficial for the community. I also try to help the angry ones learn anger management, bonobo-style. I know my AASECT colleagues work towards similar goals, albeit in different ways….”

Indeed it does seem to me also to confirm this work even more vital and needed in the world… thank you again for this post and for going all the way to Puerto Rico to keep your message alive and thriving… I’m so glad you had such a wonderful birthday there.. I only wish I could have been with you also, of course! Maybe next time!

Meanwhile I’ve sponsored a baby bonobo in honor of your birthday at bonobo.org and you will receive a little note from them Sister I love you!!!! xoxo
